We need YOU to help with the 2014 Joint Women's Leadership Symposium

We need you for 2014 Joint Women’s Leadership Symposium!

Positions needed:

Vice JWLS Chair: Works with the Chair in overall planning, coordination, and execution of all aspects of the symposium to include content, vendor coordination, budgeting, etc.  Shadow and assist current JWLS Chair, Jean Marie Sullivan, with anticipation that you’d Chair the event in 2015.  This position involves weekly meetings (over the phone, in person meetings (usually over dinner) about once a month with event manager and other vendors.  Must be available on site one-two days prior to symposium and then during symposium. 

Public Affairs Coordinator: Manages all public affairs aspects of symposium, including engaging with media outlets before and during symposium; will produce messaging for SSLA social media and other forums before, during and after the conference.  You will also coordinate with the Services’ respective PAOs.  Requires weekly meetings with PAOs a few weeks prior to symposium and heavily involved during conference.  This doesn’t require PAO experience, but would be preferred.

Volunteer Coordinator: Recruits and manages dozen or so volunteers to help run JWLS.  Requires some time and coordination about a month before JWLS and then heavily involved during JWLS.  Ensures thank you letters are sent after symposium.

International Attendee Coordinator: Corresponds with international associations, Embassies and Military Attaches to garner interests in international uniform personnel to attend JWLS.  During JWLS, this person keeps in touch with international attendees to answer questions, facilitate their attendance and ensure attendees have a meaningful symposium experience.  Follow up after event with thank you letters.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Self-motivated, works well under pressure; and team-oriented!
  • Prefer if you live in National Capital Region but not all positions require it.
  • Can dedicate some evenings (no more than 2 hours, usually once a month).
  • Positive about serving in the military, but recognizes issues still need to be addressed.
